Cord prolapse

This fourth and final maternity CPD article focuses on that of the extremely rare, but often fatal for the foetus, complication of cord prolapse. The current JRCALC guidance has just been reviewed and there are, as you will see from this article, a couple of major alterations to this guidance. Rapid recognition and removal to definitive care is the only potential life-saving intervention that is required – and the quicker that the woman reaches definitive care, the better chance her baby has of survival.
